July 2018 –  Mrs. Elizabeth Mersereau is the spouse of an Active-Duty Serviceman.  As such, in addition to other required factors, she was eligible to participate in the Military Corps Career Connect (MC3) program.

Mrs. Mersereau participated in the MC3 Workforce Innovators Training Program in S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math).  This program offers:

  • Robotic Skills Training
  • Résumé Writing
  • Negotiation Tactics

Mrs. Merseareau (pictured above holding certificate) comments regarding her experience:

“The instructor, Brian, definitely knows how to inspire and motivate you on your professional development journey. He has structured the class really well to make sure you get what you want out of the training. Whether it’s résumé building or building a robot. To my surprise, I genuinely enjoyed the robotics lessons we were provided. It’s a great foundation to start from and the training showed us how we could develop our current skills and build upon what we learned in programming if we wanted to keep pursing it. I loved this training and all it had to offer!”

NOTE:  We are currently recruiting for the next session, which will be held August 13th – 16th.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Claudia Marin, Veteran Career Consultant/Navigator at either CPMarin@co.pg.md.us or (301) 618-8407.

February 2018 –  I would like to thank  WSD staff for being instrumental in helping me obtain gainful employment again. I contacted Mr. Richard Montalvo when I found myself unemployed due to my employer losing their contract (He and Mr. Pete Goodson had helped me previously). He remembered me and some of the obstacles and issues that I faced (after spending over 10 years in Federal Prison). Mr. Montalvo remembered that I was working in the IT field and suggested that I allow him to submit me for IT certification. Once being approved for AWS training, I added the expected completion date to my resume and immediately started getting interviews. I had two offers with start dates after the AWS training. I am back on course to making a 6 figure income after being out of work for close to 6 months. Now my problem is not trying to find a job but which one I will accept (which is a good position to be in). I could not have done it without the help of DLLR and Mr. Montalvo.  Thank you again for your assistance in helping me become better equipped to succeed.

May 2017 – “My name is xxxx and I just recently was laid off as a government contractor, a position I have held for the past 9 years. So this experience has been extremely trying, to say the least, coupled with the fact that I am now 50+ years old and looking for a new career or job. It has been a little overwhelming.

However, after finally getting the filing of a claim accomplished, something I haven’t done in at least 20 years. I was told about your Workforce Services and decided a to call. I had the great pleasure of speaking with Jamese Young, who was polite, kind, pleasant and very informative. Which for me was just the kindness I needed to encounter.  She is a “Jewel” and should be recognized.

So I find my way to your office and she tells me the services you all render and directs me to computer area to get set up.  I am not sure if my uncomfortable demeanor showed, but I met Timothy Pillard, who introduced himself and was a bevy of knowledge, as well as extremely helpful. His patience with me made this unfortunate situation a little more tolerable.  Again I ask that he too, be saluted, for his efforts.”

July 2017The following success story was submitted by Wanda Cromer, one of our WIOA Career Consultants.

Wanda began working with Ms. xxxx, in March 2017, coaching her and providing an array of One Stop services and resources all aimed at helping her to obtain full time employment. Wanda spoke with Ms. xxxx on July 11th for monthly follow-up.  She was still unemployed and understandably felt discouraged about her situation.

Wanda then sent her the link to The Arc of Prince George’s County and instructed her to review job openings and send her any job to which she applied, promising to bring her applications to the attention of the recruiter at The Arc.

Ms. xxxx applied for the full-time Appointment Coordinator position and Wanda forwarded her information to the recruiter on July 12th. On July 18th Ms. xxxx sent an email stating that she was offered the job. We are pleased to announce that she started her new job on July 31st . Yeah!!
